Nipsey Hussle and Lauren London may have just broken the internet.
As revealed on Thursday (Feb. 21), the typically private couple are the latest interview subjects to dive deep about their personal lives together in the March 2019 issue of GQ.
In the in-depth profile, which was titled “California Love,” the power couple tells GQ‘s Mark Anthony Green about how they met and some of the definitive moments they’ve shared together.
Shedding a light on how they met, London reveals that Instagram DMs played a role in how they first became connected, as well as bonded over a limited edition mixtape Nipsey was selling at the time for $100.
“The marketing for the mixtape was that we only made a thousand units and sold them for a hundred dollars apiece,” the Grammy-nominated rapper explained. “It was a scarcity model. JAY-Z bought a few copies, et cetera.”
The profile then humbly notes how JAY-Z ended up actually buying more than “a few” copies, supporting the rapper by getting his hands on 97 copies.
Given that the 2013 mixtape helped connect them and provided a basis for the pair to communicate, Nipsey explains how they’ve been “building” ever since (as well as fighting off rumors they are engaged). The couple has been together for over five years now. They share a son named Kross, have another son from London’s previous relationship with Lil Wayne, and Nip has a daughter from a previous relationship, as well.
To accompany the profile, the couple was photographed by Awol Erizku. The stunning series of photos features the couple exploring their native city of Los Angeles; accented by gorgeous views, a white stallion and a candid street scene.
Throughout the interview, Nipsey and London discuss their respective careers, including how the ATL star had to turn down roles in the past to become a full-time mother.
“Lauren was handpicked by John Singleton to do ‘Snowfall.’ She read, got the part, shot the pilot…did stunts…this was her dream role,” Nipsey shared. “And then she got pregnant with our son. That was a really hard decision for her to make.”
London added that her choice to turn down the role was “the toughest decision of my career by far.”
“I didn’t put any pressure on her for whatever decision she wanted to make,” Nipsey said. “I learned then that what she believes in, she really believes in.”
“Do I choose my soul or myself?” London explained. “I went with my soul.”
