Blueface’s music career has been growing exponentially due to the success of his breakout single, “Thotiana.” However, the rapper born Johnathan Porter, has been hit with another potential legal setback.
According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office, the 22-year-old upstart has been charged with the possession of a loaded, unregistered handgun.
The charges stems from a Feb. 1 incident, during which several of Blueface’s associates fled the scene upon the arrival of police. In the aftermath, a gun was found by authorities. While his manager insists the weapon did not belong to the emerging rapper, Blueface and two others were arrested in connection with the incident. He was released on a $35,000 bail following the arrest.
As reported, the felony gun charge carries a maximum of three years behind bars. The new charges come less than a week before Blueface is due in court for another gun case stemming from his Nov. 2018 arrest.
Last year, he was allegedly involved in a robbery and vehicle-to-vehicle shootout after chasing down a man who had allegedly robbed him at a gas station in LA. The incident led to his being arrested on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. These charges were later reduced to a misdemeanor gun possession. He pleaded not guilty in December.
The rapper is due back in court on Feb. 27.
In related news, Blueface and Cardi B recently dropped a video for their official “Thotiana (Remix)” alongside YG, which helped build Blueface’s momentum as a fast-rising rapper. Nicki Minaj, Desiigner and Young MA, among others, have also gotten their hands on the infectious single and contributed remixes of their own.
Legal issues aside, Blueface is currently scheduled to perform across the U.S. alongside Lil Baby and City Girls. The tour is set to kick off next month.
