On Tuesday (Feb. 19), the passing of Karl Lagerfeld was confirmed by a variety of sources close to the iconic fashion designer.

Lagerfeld, who cultivated a world-renowned reputation through his work at Fendi, Chanel and his own self-titled brand; died at the age of 85 after fighting a brief illness. As the news of his death began to circulate on social media, a handful of celebrities and hip hop artists took a moment to reflect on his legendary contributions to the fashion industry across the globe.

Pharrell, who became the first man to star in a Chanel bag campaign in 2017, took to Twitter to simply write, “The goat sleeps.”
