After over two decades, Lil Durk has been reunited with his father, who he fondly refers to as Big Durk.

Earlier this week (Feb. 12), the Chicago rapper tweeted the good news that his father has been released from prison.

“Big durk home !!!!” he wrote on Twitter, adding a blue heart emoji. Soon thereafter, photos of the reunited family began circulating showcasing them enjoying a meal together.

As reported, his father, Dontay Banks, was caught up in a crack-cocaine distribution ring in Chicago and was arrested in 1993. At the time of his arrest, he had up to $8 million dollars in his possession when the F.B.I. Lil Durk was just a baby at the time.

“As it started out, I had a life sentence for the stooge pigeons who told on me,” Banks shared in a previous statement. “I been doing that time for 22 years now. But by the grace of Allah, I got that blessing and won the appeal and now I’ll be out in a few years… to be with my boy, to be with my sons and be where I’m supposed to be in life and do the things I’m supposed to do as a father.”

In past interviews, Lil Durk has commented on his father’s incarceration as well, reflecting on how he inspired his artist moniker and decision to become a rapper.

“My daddy was one of the big guys,” Lil Durk shared during Noisey’s “Chiraq” documentary. “I seen a lot of it growing up…like I say, my head was just everywhere. I’m like man ‘I wanna be just like him.’ They say he got caught with like eight million dollars and like six bricks.”

As reported, Banks was sentenced to life in prison in July 1994. After serving 22 years, he won his appeal and now, after nearly 25 years, has been officially granted his freedom.

In related news, Durk recently signed to Alamo Records, as well as is gearing up to embark on a one-month tour, which is set to kick off later this month.
