Ahead of the Grammy Awards this upcoming Sunday (Feb. 10), Harper’s Bazaar revealed Cardi B is the star of their March 2019 cover.
During the magazine’s accompanying interview feature, which was shared in full on Thursday (Feb. 7), the Grammy Award-nominated rapper opens up about her personal life, which has increasingly been of public interest since she became estranged with her daughter’s father and husband, Offset.
During the in-depth conversation, which took place at Cardi’s go-to nail salon in the Bronx, the 26-year-old is asked a question that has been at the forefront of her fans’ minds for months: does she see herself getting back together with the Migos rapper?
Cardi’s answer was on-brand and open-ended: “I don’t think so. Who knows? You never know, you can never tell.”
Later on, she opens up a bit more, explaining how her estranged husband wanted them to work on saving their marriage together.
“No, I decided on my own,” she responded, when asked if family or friends helped persuade her in either direction. “Nobody makes my decisions about my life but me.” She then reveals that before they parted ways, Offset proposed therapy.
“I didn’t want to go to marriage counseling,” she told journalist Vanessa Grigoriadis. “He suggested it, but it’s like, ‘I don’t want to go.’ There’s no counselor or nothing that could make me change my mind.”
The conversation’s focus on her romantic life didn’t stop there, with Cardi then weighing in about any future potential suitors.
“I have a kid, and I’m also famous,” she continued. “So I can’t just sleep with anybody. People talk. You know, if I date somebody in the industry, that’s another person in the industry. If I date somebody who is not in the industry, he might not understand my lifestyle.”
Cardi also explained how her DMs have looked post-breakup and why she’s chosen to ignore the messages.
“It’s like, ‘Bro, why would you want to holler at me right away? You’re weird.’ If you think Imma automatically hop onto you after a marriage, that just means you think I’m a sleaze. And I’m not. I have a kid—I have to show an example,” she concluded. “Just because I’m out there and very sexual doesn’t mean that I have to be whorish; I like to have sex. That doesn’t mean I have to have it with everybody. Not that I judge women who want to have sex with the world.”
Elsewhere throughout the interview, Cardi touches on being nervous about Grammys weekend (during which she will be performing and is nominated for five awards), postpartum depression, adjusting to motherhood and why she’s opting to spend less time on social media these days.
