News of 21 Savage’s arrest has garnered a range of reactions with countless voicing their concern over the rapper’s safety in hopes to drown out the jokes being made at his expense.
As previously reported, on Sunday (Feb. 3), the rapper was taken into ICE custody under allegations that he is a U.K. national and has been unlawfully residing in the United States since his visa expired in July 2006.
His lawyer, Charles H. Kuck, has since referred to ICE’s treatment of his client as a “civil law violation,” explaining that “Mr. Abraham-Joseph has U.S. citizen children that he supports and is eligible for relief from deportation. We and he will fight for his release, for his family, and his right to remain in our country.”
The rapper’s co-manager, Justin “Meezy” Williams, has also taken to Twitter to check in with fans and provide an update regarding 21’s status.
“Just got off phone wit Savage,” he posted on Tuesday (Feb. 5) in a post that has since been deleted. “He is in lockdown for 23hrs of the day no TV or any communication besides our 10 min phone calls… Everything I’ve told him that has been happening made him happy & makes this time fly by thank y’all for the support.”
In addition to the rapper’s management and lawyer weighing in on the matter, 21’s mother, Heather Joseph, has also broken her silence. Taking to her Instagram story on Monday (Feb. 4), she offered a statement commenting on the situation and rebuked those who poked fun at the serious matter.
“It’s a damn shame when we live in a world where people thrive off and feed negative energy.. laugh at others who are going through real life challenges, fighting for their lives & freedom…sick of it! However, in the end people will see! This too shall come to pass. Free 21 Savage,” she wrote in her post.
At the time of this report, 21 Savage has not been charged with any crimes and it remains unclear whether or not he will be deported.
While the public awaits updates regarding the rapper’s fate, his fans have put together a petition on his behalf. In the first 24 hours of its creation, the petition has garnered well over 150,000 signatures and counting.
