Over the weekend, on Saturday (Jan. 26), XXXTentacion’s mother Cleopatra Bernard and girlfriend Jenesis Sanchez confirmed the news that the late rapper’s son has arrived. The baby boy, named Gekyume Onfroy, was born seven months after X’s death, three days after what would have been the rapper’s 21st birthday.

“XXXTentacion’s mother, Cleopatra Bernard, and Jenesis Sanchez are thrilled to announce the arrival of baby boy Gekyume Onfroy — born January 26, 2019. We’re happy to confirm that Baby and Mother are healthy,” the family shared in a statement with People. “Gekyume’s name is derived from a word X created prior to his passing, which means ‘a different state’ or ‘next’ universe of thought. XXXTentacion specifically chose this name for his first born son; his family is honored to fulfill his wish and shower baby Gekyume with love.”

Bernard also shared the news of her grandchild’s birth on her Instagram story, announcing, “Yume has officially arrived.”

Days after XXXTentacion was fatally shot outside of a motorcycle dealership in Florida, his mother revealed that X and his girlfriend were expecting a child. After sharing a photo of a sonogram on Instagram with the caption “He left us a final gift,” she confirmed her son’s girlfriend would be welcoming a baby boy.

At the time of his passing, at age 20, the rapper was reportedly set to face trial for allegations of domestic violence. The felony charges, which he adamantly declared he was not guilty of, included aggravated battery of a pregnant woman in 2016, domestic battery by strangulation and witness tampering.
