Turns out fans (and collectors) will go to extreme lengths to own a piece of hip hop history, including dishing out over $20,000 for a pornographic drawing by none other than the late Tupac Shakur.
As reported, a series of erotic artworks drawn by the legendary rapper has been sold for $21,155.75. The NSFW drawing, along with a hand-drawn love letter, was sold at a recent auction hosted by Steiner Auctions.
Per TMZ, the artworks were made by Tupac while he was serving a jail sentence at the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York back in 1995. He dedicated them to his then-girlfriend, Desiree Smith, and even customized the envelope the illustration was packaged in.
The sketches, which were previously owned by the late rapper’s estate, feature him and Smith making love on a couch. Writing in perfect cursive lettering, he added the phrases “missing you deeply” and “forever with love.”
According to the celebrity site, a man in his 60s was the lucky buyer, purchasing the artwork and accompanying letters this past December. The items in question received over ten bids before selling for the final price.
Over the years, a variety of items belonging to Tupac have been auctioned off, including love letters he penned while he was in high school.
Other prized possessions that have made their way through the auction houses since his untimely passing in 1996 include Pac’s personal RIAA multi-platinum sales plaque for Me Against The World, signed contracts from the films Juice and Poetic Justice, his bullet-dented gold pendant, his workout bench, the car he was fatally shot in, hand-written song lyrics, and other novelties. Items from the Tupac estate in the past have been valued at over a hundred thousand dollars and counting.
