Kendrick Lamar has the potential to add multiple new additions to his trophy case this awards season. As announced on Tuesday (Jan. 22), the Compton rapper has officially earned his first-ever Oscars nomination.

Lamar and his TDE label-mate SZA are up for Best Original Song at the 2019 Oscars for their collaborative track, “All The Stars,” which appeared on the Black Panther soundtrack. The song is also up for several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year. It was produced by Sounwave and Al Shux.

At the Oscars, Lamar and SZA’s track will compete against Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper (“Shallow” from A Star Is Born), Jennifer Hudson (“I’ll Fight” from RBG), Emily Blunt (“The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns) and Tim Blake Nelson/Willie Watson (“When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs).

In addition to earning critical praise for its soundtrack, the Black Panther film has officially become the first superhero movie to ever be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars.

Lamar was tapped as the executive producer for the soundtrack by director Ryan Coogler. While working on the major motion picture’s soundtrack, the 31-year-old rapper recruited ScHoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, Khalid, Swae Lee, Vince Staples, Jorja Smith, Ab-Soul, James Blake, Jay Rock, Future, Anderson .Paak, Travis Scott, Mozzy, Reason and The Weeknd; to offer their talents on the project.

“The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture,” Lamar previously shared with Rolling Stone, speaking on his involvement with the film. “I’m truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside [director] Ryan [Coogler] and Marvel’s vision.”

It’s rumored that Lamar has been busy at work on his latest solo offering despite the president of his label telling fans otherwise.

The 2019 Oscars are set to air on Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Revisit Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s nominated track, “All The Stars,” below.
