Future has embarked on the next chapter of his career and it arrives in the form of his latest album, The Wizrd.
The project, which is out today (Jan. 18), spans 20 tracks and features guest appearances from Young Thug, Gunna and Travis Scott, as well as includes production from frequent collaborators Metro Boomin, Southside and Tay Keith.
“This is the final f—king chapter of me,” Future told Rolling Stone. “The Wizrd always ahead, know what to do. It’s a long road, heading down this road I know how to maneuver down. I know how to detour off this road, also. That’s the Wizrd.”
In addition to appearing on “The Late Show” Thursday (Jan. 17) night, during which he ran through the album’s lead single “Crushed Up,” the rapper also sat down for a special edition of his own “FREEBANDZ RADIO Presents: THE WIZRD” Beats 1 show on Apple Music.
During the conversation, Future covers a lot of ground. His topics ranged from fame, his creative process and his thoughts on his ex-fiancée Ciara and her husband, Russell Wilson.
“He do exactly what she tell him to do… He not being a man in that position,” he said. “He’s not telling her, ‘Chill out with that on the internet. Don’t even talk to him. I’m your husband. You better not even bring Future’s name up.’ If that was me, she couldn’t even bring his name up. She know that. She couldn’t even bring her ex’s name up. I don’t care what they gave you. You don’t bring their name up in interviews. Don’t even do nothing around them, don’t say nothing. Don’t give that s—t no energy.”
He also continued by pointing out how he was disappointed that Ciara introduced their son, Future, to Wilson early on in their relationship without discussing it first.
“Then, when y’all get married, she was like, ‘I want you to meet Russell now,’” he continued. “Y’all already done did all the damage. I don’t want to meet him now. You supposed to done met him before you brought the kid around him.”
In addition to talking about some of the more difficult aspects of co-parenting, Future also touched on making his new album and his lawsuit with Rocko.
