DJ Khaled’s transition from being a star on the smartphone screen to a force on the big screen is one of organic sensibility. The famed producer and DJ will officially be expanding his on-screen film credits and has been recruited to join the cast of the long-awaited follow-up in the Bad Boys saga.
The news of Khaled’s involvement arrives just over a week after Will Smith revealed that he and co-star Martin Lawrence have begun filming Bad Boys For Life, which is set to hit theaters on Jan. 17, 2020.
As reported by Variety, Khaled will join the veteran actors as part of a star-studded cast that also includes Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, Jacob Scipio and Paola Nuñez.
“Blessed to announce that I will be joining @willsmith and @Martinlawrence in the cast of @badboys #BadBoysForLifemovie! Salute @fallahbilall @adilelarbi,” Khaled wrote on Instagram, sharing a behind-the-scenes flick of him onset. “May I remind you, it’s only Jan 15th, 2019. Y’all have no idea what’s coming. I’m coming for the Oscars!! God Is The Greatest!!!”
While it is unclear exactly what role Khaled will be portraying, he has since made cameos as himself in 2017’s Pitch Perfect 3 and 2018’s Netflix original The After Party. On top of that, the Florida hitmaker has also played a role in the upcoming Jamie Foxx film All Star Weekend, as well as lent his voice as part of the Fox Animation movie Spies in Disguise.
In true form to the beloved Bad Boys franchise, the plot of the highly anticipated follow-up to 2003’s Bad Boys II, and of course the original 1995 Bad Boys, follows the story of eccentric, old school detectives who are dedicated to protecting the streets of Miami. Production for the film is currently under way.
In addition to continuing his segue into film, DJ Khaled also had a hand in J. Cole’s Revenge of the Dreamers III sessions. He was spotted in attendance with the likes of Cole and Swizz Beatz on Tuesday (Jan. 15) night, where undoubtedly some studio magic was taking place.
