Colin Kaepernick denies that he gave Travis Scott his blessing for Super Bowl performance

Despite several influential figures, such as Meek Mill and JAY-Z, advising Travis Scott to take heed, the Astroworld rapper has decided to perform during the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show in Atlanta, Georgia.

Following the confirmation of his forthcoming appearance, which was organized under the condition that the NFL join him in making a $500,000 donation to the social justice organization Dream Corps, Variety issued a report claiming that the rapper had spoken with Colin Kaepernick during his negotiations with the league.

As initially reported by Variety, the ex-NFL quarterback and activist allegedly gave his approval for Scott to move forward with his then-rumored involvement in the league’s highly publicized annual game. However, judging from the outcry from those close to the Kaepernick camp, the football player did not give Scott his blessing whatsoever.

According to the report, a source close to Scott said that while the two did not necessarily agree on the rapper’s decision to move forward, they “emerged from the conversation with mutual respect and understanding,” going on to cite the potential impact the NFL’s donation could have.

While Kaepernick has not yet issued a statement clearing the air, his girlfriend, Hot 97’s Nessa, reacted on Twitter by writing, “There is NO mutual respect and there is NO understanding for anyone working against @Kaepernick7 PERIOD. #stoplying.”

Kaep retweeted the post, leading many to believe that he actually did not have a conversation with Scott, nor support him in his decision to perform during the Super Bowl.

“Kap did not approve this bulls—t! Get the f—k outta here….” Ebro responded, sharing the initial Variety report on Twitter.

Kaepernick is in the middle of pursuing legal action against the NFL. This action stems from the league’s response to his silent protest movement and alleged efforts to keep him out of work.

“I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire,” Scott said in a statement, announcing earlier this week that he will be involved in this year’s Super Bowl festivities. “So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”
