After weeks of speculation, Travis Scott has officially been confirmed for an appearance during the upcoming halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl.

However, his decision to participate as part of the annual affair’s billed entertainment arrived with a conscious compromise.

As reported, the “Sicko Mode” rapper has agreed to perform during the halftime show under the condition that the NFL donates to a social justice cause.

Per Billboard, the negotiation included a $500,000 donation made in partnership between the rapper and the NFL to Dream Corps, an organization founded by Van Jones in 2014.

“I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in,” Scott shared in a statement with Billboard. “I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”

Scott was previously rumored to be involved with the halftime show late last year, sparking criticism from a variety of celebrities due to the NFL’s treatment of Colin Kaepernick.

Artists such as Rihanna, Cardi B and JAY-Z reportedly turned down the offer to perform due to the ongoing controversy surrounding the NFL, and its response to the peaceful protest movement spearheaded by the quarterback and activist.

While it remains unclear if JAY-Z ended up playing a direct role in the nature of Scott’s conditions to perform during the Super Bowl, it was rumored he had approached the Houston rapper to reconsider after news he had accepted first began circulating.

As previously reported, Maroon 5 will headline the big day. Big Boi has also been confirmed as a special guest alongside Scott. The Super Bowl is set to take place on Feb. 3 in Atlanta.
