With the dawning of a new year comes the promise of festival season.
Kicking off 2019 with a bang, the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival shared its line-up on Thursday (Jan. 3) by revealing Childish Gambino, Tame Impala and Ariana Grande are set to headline the annual affair.
Other acts who will take to the stage in Indio, California include Kid Cudi, Anderson .Paak, Juice Wrld, Jaden Smith, Tierra Whack, JPEGMafia, Wiz Khalifa, Sheck Wes, Smino, SiR, Murda Beatz, Ella Mai, J. Balvin, Pusha-T, Khalid, Bad Bunny, YG, Playboi Carti, H.E.R, Blood Orange, Kaytranada, SOB X RBE and Rico Nasty, among others.
The festival, which will be celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, is set to take place over the course of two weekends from April 12 – April 14 and April 19 – April 21. Grande’s set will conclude the festivities. Additionally, the singer makes history as the youngest female artist to headline the event, as well as will be the fourth woman overall to perform during a premier headlining slot.
Gambino being tapped to headline makes for a welcome surprise, as he’s previously told fans that his “This Is America Tour” will mark his final trek under his artist moniker. If the hyphenate stays true to his word, Coachella 2019 could be the last opportunity for fans to see him perform live.
The flyer announcing the acts caught the attention of fans after many realized the promotional image listed “Gucci Gang,” whereas the official website included a photo of Gucci Mane that was labeled as “Gucci Gang.” While many began roasting the festival for the typo, reps confirmed to TMZ that the labeling was intentional. According to the rep, Guwop will be performing alongside Lil Pump and Smokepurpp, and the trio are being billed collectively as the Gucci Gang. The image has since been updated to feature a three-way split.
Additionally, many fans noticed the absence of Kanye West’s name. The rapper was rumored to be in talks to headline this year, but reportedly pulled out of negotiations after organizers were not open to discussing an alternative to the traditional use of stage performers, throughout the course of the festival.
For those interested in attending, tickets will go on sale on Friday (Jan. 4) via Coachella’s website. Tickets for general admission begin at $429 and gradually increase from there depending on the package.
