Beyoncé and JAY-Z are kicking off the new year with some changes in tow, calling on fans to join them on their journey as they foray into embracing a vegan lifestyle.

To provide further insight into the couple’s decision, their pair penned the introduction for Marco Borges’ new book, “The Greenprint: Plant-Based Diet, Best Body, Better World.” Borges, who works as Beyoncé’s personal trainer, released the book yesterday (Dec. 31). This makes the literary work a perfect new year read for anyone seeking guidance on how to introduce healthier habits and more conscious nutrition choices into their daily routine.

“Having children has changed our lives more than anything else,” the Carters wrote in the book’s introduction. “We used to think of health as a diet—some worked for us, some didn’t. Once we looked at health as the truth, instead of a diet, it became a mission for us to share that truth and lifestyle with as many people as possible.”

After exploring this change in perspective further and deciding to embrace veganism, the couple opens up the premise into a bit of a challenge for fans to join in on, writing, “[we] want to challenge you, as we challenge ourselves.”

Last year, Beyoncé vocalized how she was adapting a plant-based diet, while preparing for her historic Coachella 2018 performance, challenging herself to a 44-day vegan prompt. Additionally, Bey and Hov previously partook in a 22-day vegan challenge in 2013. This even inspired JAY-Z to blog about the experience and the intentions behind the “spiritual and physical cleanse.”

“We all have a responsibility to stand up for our health and the health of the planet,” the couple concluded in the book’s introduction. “Let’s take this stand together. Let’s spread the truth. Let’s make this mission a movement. Let’s become the ‘Greenprint.’”

Although the Carters aren’t necessarily asking their fans to adopt a strict vegan lifestyle right off the bat, they are advocating for adding more plant-based meals into one’s diet by explaining how the decision to do so has “a profound impact on our health and the environment.”
