DMX is reportedly set to be released from prison in January 2019 after serving a one-year sentence in connection to his tax evasion case.
According to a recent report from TMZ, the veteran rapper will be a free man on January 27, 2019 and, not only that, but he already has his sights set on pursuing new music and a slew of film-related projects.
Last year, DMX was charged with 14 federal counts of tax evasion, going on to plead guilty to a single count. After being originally free on bail pending sentencing, X was remanded to jail at the top of this year after leaving a court-ordered drug treatment program and relapsing.
The judge presiding over his case ordered him to one year in prison followed by three years of supervised release. Additionally, he was also ordered by the court to pay $2.3 million in restitution to the government after attempting to dodge paying a colossal tax bill, and allegedly hiding royalties and other sources of income.
According to DMX’s attorney, Murry Richman, the 48-year-old entertainer has received “numerous offers” to work on his own biopic, as well as been writing songs to pass the time while incarcerated. The songs in question could possibly be released as an album or larger project, which would mark his first solo offering since 2012’s Undisputed.
In true form to the holiday spirit, a fan recently utilized DMX’s rendition of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” in a massive seasonal display, even incorporating a smiling hype man into the equation.
