Iggy Azalea has found herself in hot water once again. This time, she is facing backlash regarding how she responded to a crisis situation during her concert in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Thursday (Dec. 27).
According to reports, a backup dancer collapsed onstage during their live performance of the track “Black Widow.” As revealed from video capturing the incident, it appears as though Azalea saw that the woman had fallen and stopped running through their choreography, but continued on with the performance despite something clearly being wrong.
During the confusing incident, another woman kneels next to the dancer and calls out for medical assistance. About 30 seconds later, the music stops and the dancer begins to receive the help she needs. However, as the video footage goes viral online, Azalea has been hit with an onslaught of criticism for how she didn’t rush to her background dancer’s assistance in her visible moment of need.
The 28-year-old has since addressed the situation on her Instagram story, offering up an explanation for why she reacted the way she did.
“Hey guys, just want to let everyone asking know my dancer is OKAY!” Azalea began, sharing a series of updates with her fans on Instagram. “The lights & heat caused her to have a seizure. She is backstage feeling much better.”
In a second post, Azalea continues, “Also, for what it’s worth in regards to the backup dancer. 1. I thought she had just fallen/twisted her ankle. And it may sound harsh. But, you keep singing until music stops & ask for a medic, which is what I did. 2. We are all really shaken up by what happened & just thankful she is okay. 3. I know it’s easy to make memes of someone ‘passed out.’ But, someone having a seizure isn’t funny, it’s really scary! So I hope my fans do not repost some of the memes I’m seeing about my dancer.”
While thankfully her dancer is recovering from the unfortunate incident and is doing much better, it is clear Azalea is feeling worn down from all the hate she receives from others, going on to add that she feels “exhausted by the world.”
“It feels like ANY thing I do becomes an opportunity for people to tell me why I’m s–t, why my music sucks, my clothes are ugly, why I don’t matter or Why im a horrible person,” she continued. “Im worn down.”
She then leaves her fans with the suggestion, “Could we be a little kinder to each other?”
