On Saturday (Dec. 15), Rolling Loud was in full swing in Los Angeles with rappers such as Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Post Malone, Young Thug and more each taking the stage. During Cardi B‘s set, a historic occasion marking the first time the premier music festival tapped a woman to headline, her performance was unfortunately interrupted by her estranged husband, Offset, who attempted to use the high profile moment to try to make amends.

In the middle of her set, a production crew rolled out a flower display comprised of roses spelling out “Take Me Back Cardi B.” Soon thereafter, the Migos rapper walked out onstage with a live mic, declaring his love for the Bronx rapper. Judging from her body language and reaction, Cardi B was caught extremely off guard by the whole gesture, quickly ushering her former partner off the stage and displaying next-level professionalism and showmanship by continuing on with her set.

The surprise took the internet by storm with thousands weighing in on the now-viral situation. In the aftermath of the stunt, which resulted in more backlash than praise, Offset took to Twitter to address the situation and explain his intention behind the dramatic gesture.

“All of my wrongs have been made public, I figure It’s only right that my apologies are made public too,” Offset tweeted Sunday (Dec. 16) morning. “A n—a was just trying …..thank god I ain’t got no balloons sheeesh.”

Cardi B has also since weighed in, pleading for fans to stop bullying Kulture’s father on social media, as well as thanking fans for their support during this difficult time. The Invasion of Privacy rapper announced their split earlier in the month.

Organizers of Rolling Loud have issued statements responding to allegations that they were involved in the onstage ambush, explaining how their artists have full control of the stage during their allotted set times and therefore, the festival itself was not in on the surprise.

“We were told she was going to have a guest star during her set that it was going to be [Offset’s full group] Migos. But, we didn’t know anything about that stunt,” Rolling Loud co-founder Tariq Cherif said in a statement with the Los Angeles Times. “We’re getting blamed as if we conspired to do this, and I just want to make it clear that we did not. Cardi’s management was in on it, it had nothing to do with the festival. The artist is in full control of the stage and they determine who gets on and off.”

Fans have also singled out Cardi B’s publicist Patience for playing a role in the situation, an allegation that the rapper has abruptly shut down.

“I don’t like people talking shit about my publicist, that’s like my sister. Same way I would ride for my little sister, I’d ride for anyone that’s around me,” Cardi said during a session on Instagram Live. “Especially at this point in life where everyone wants to use me. I cherish my days ones and love them and it’s always gonna be like that.”
