Meek Mill is currently readying the release of Championships, which is set to drop on Friday (Nov. 30). The project, which will mark his first since being released from prison earlier this year, will span 18 tracks and include guest features from Fabolous, Cardi B, Kodak Black, Anuel AA and more.

During a new interview with Vulture, the rapper discussed his newfound purpose for advocating for prison reform and fighting for social justice.

During the conversation, Kanye West‘s name came up and Meek revealed he tried to step in to prevent the outspoken rapper from meeting with the current administration again. As fans can recall, West went to meet with Trump under the guise of discussing criminal justice reform but instead turned the meeting into a rant-fueled spectacle.

“It was a mockery, really, I don’t think [Kanye] addressed anything that had to do with what was tough on justice reform,” Meek shared. “He wasn’t prepared for it, and he shouldn’t have done it.”

He goes on to describe that witnessing West’s action resulted in a “mixture of disappointment and disgust.”

Elsewhere throughout the interview, Meek explained that his efforts to stop West from meeting with Trump turned into an invitation to join him. Meek declined.

“I had phone calls with Kanye for hours,” he revealed. “He was trying to get me to go to things like that.”

It was previously reported that JAY-Z played a part in Meek’s decision not to meet with Trump. At the time, representatives for Meek explained how he would rather focus on his efforts to fix the system instead of drawing inevitable attention to the high-profile meeting itself.

“I already knew that he don’t give a fuck about me or my kind,” Meek said, in reference to the possibility to meet with Trump. “It was too much of a game, and I wasn’t trying to be used like a pawn.”

From speaking on open panels to meeting with lawmakers and other organizing experts to penning op-eds on the subject, Meek’s focus on his work to help make tangible change happen has been extremely admirable and important.

Additionally, it was also recently reported that although Meek has consistently denied any wrongdoing in the 2016 concert shooting incident that took the lives of two men, the victims’ families have filed new documents demanding the wrongful death suits be sorted.

According to reports, the families of Jaquan Graves and Travis Ward have filed new court documents explaining they are willing to settle their separate negligence lawsuits against the rapper, the Oakdale Musical Theatre Company and Live Nation for $3M each. Meek has denied any allegations he was involved in the shooting, claiming he couldn’t have known a shooting was going to take place.
