It goes without saying that 6ix9ine has built a colossal following on social media, making him an appealing candidate for large brands to partner with for promotional purposes.
However, according to a Nov. 28 report from TMZ, the rapper’s recent creative choices may have soured a new deal he had secured with Fashion Nova.
As reported, 6ix9ine had signed a six-figure deal with the company under the guise he would shout them out in his music and on his socials. However, his new album Dummy Boy, arrived on Tuesday (Nov. 27) including one song that has reportedly angered the fashion brand.
The song “MAMA” featuring Nicki Minaj and Kanye West has one line where 6ix9ine rhymes, “splish splash / Apple Bottoms make that ass phat.” According to TMZ, the line in question was supposed to namedrop Fashion Nova and was changed at the last minute to instead make a reference to the jean company.
As reported, the company paid the rapper in full before he delivered on his end of the bargain, which could end up being a costly mistake on their part.
Prior to the song’s video shoot being derailed by a shooting incident, 6ix9ine had teased the song on Instagram using a clip that included the Fashion Nova version, giving the company the impression their partnership had amicably begun. However, now that the music video was not finished due to the interruption and the album has been released with the seemingly last minute edit, the fashion brand is not too pleased with the rapper’s decision to exclude them from the track.
An anonymous source shared with TMZ that Minaj played a role in changing the lyric in question. Apparently, she wanted the brand edited out due to Cardi B dropping her new exclusive clothing line with Fashion Nova. The pair have had bouts of tension throughout majority of this year, with things reaching new heights back in September.
According to reports, Fashion Nova has not yet demanded their money back from the deal, but it could lead to even more legal trouble for 6ix9ine in the future. At the time of this report, the rapper remains behind bars and is awaiting trail, which has been scheduled for next September.
