With the one-year anniversary of the passing of Lil Peep a month away, fans are taking solace in the fact that they might be receiving a new posthumous release from the late rapper.
Per Peep’s Instagram page that’s now ran by his management team, the highly anticipated followup to the rapper’s 2017 debut album, Come Over When You’re Sober, is getting closer to be seeing the light of day. Previously, his team promised that when they felt the timing was right, they would facilitate dropping the unreleased music Peep recorded prior to his death.
The Instagram post features an image of a pink cassette tape, which is tagged with the word “test” and is marked with a date of Sept. 14, 2018, which possibly could be when the album was finalized. While no official release date has been shared at the time of this report, his frequent collaborator and producer Smokeasac previously promised fans he would help ensure the project is released, pending the approval of Lil Peep’s family.
Last month, iLoveMakonnen dropped a previously unheard track that XXXTentacion, Lil Peep and himself had worked on called “Falling Down.”
Recently, Quavo found himself in hot water when fans accused him of disrespecting Peep’s legacy in the track “Big Bro,” which appears on his new solo album, QUAVO HUNCHO.
Taking to Twitter to clear the air regarding the line in question—”Think you poppin’ Xanax bars, but it’s Fentanyl / Think you’re living life like rock stars but you’re dead now”—Quavo issued a statement, referring to Lil Peep as a “legend” and “a real rockstar,” adding that he never will speak on the deceased. Quavo also clarified that he had lost his barber to Fentanyl, alluding to how opioids have had an impact on him personally, outside of losing his music industry peer.
