Kanye West is no stranger to trending as a result of his social media usage. However, in this instance, the rapper is making headlines for his seemingly abrupt decision to delete his Twitter and Instagram accounts yet again.

The move to deactivate his accounts is not necessarily out of character for West, who has been inconsistent with his social media patterns from the jump. Whether he is uploading dozens of design inspiration posts at a time on Instagram or defending his vocalized support for Donald Trump, West’s legacy has been called into question in the age of social media, with many fans feeling as though the rapper’s inconsistencies are doing him more harm than good, while others admittedly enjoy his occasional outbursts and spontaneous album announcements.

Recently, West began a dialogue about how follower counts could be harmful to the human psyche, calling for the founders of Twitter and SnapChat to revisit the possibly detrimental affect their platforms could be having on society. He also stated that he feels people are committing suicide as a result of the pressure surrounding social media usage and subsequent popularity.

While only time will tell if and when Ye will return to using social media, many of his fans are feeling a sigh of relief, with some asserting that the hiatus will mean the rapper is entering ful-on album mode, void of distractions. He recently promised—and failed to deliver—a new album, Yandhi, which was supposed to arrive in tandem with hosting Saturday Night Live.

Additionally, amid speculation surrounding his upcoming collaboration with Chance the Rapper, the 25-year-old recently shared with fans that the pair have not yet begun working on the project.

“I’m a huge Kanye West fan. In my mind, basically since The Life of Pablo, I’ve been begging him to come back to Chicago to work on a project with me,” Chance said, appearing on a new installment of the Joe Budden Podcast. “In my mind, this is going to be ‘Good Ass Job’ and his return to a sound that basically birthed my sound and my chance to work with who I believe to be the greatest living artist.”

Chance also commented on West as an artist, in an attempt to justify or provide insight to the rapper’s recent antics.

“I think Kanye has said it before, but I think he thinks, like, for every move, at least for the past few albums, he thinks about himself, like, 300 years in the future and how people will read things,” Chance added. “[Kanye] figures himself as trying to create a bigger blip on the long timeline where a lot of other people will be stuck in like a very small space of, like, where their art reaches or where their thoughts reach after they’ve died.”

Perhaps Ye will give more insight into his decision to deactivate his social media in the near future, as well as will hopefully give an update regarding his upcoming music, but in the meantime, fans will have to stay tuned.
