Just over two weeks ago, Kanye West made a very on-brand appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! during which he charmed the audience with his eccentricity and personality. At least until things took a predictable-but-still-cringeworthy political turn.

During the sit-down, host Jimmy Kimmel revisited one of West’s infamous comments (you know, the one where he called out then-President George Bush for not caring about Black people on national television), going on to ask how ‘Ye feels about today’s current administration. While the audience and those watching at home took a collective deep breath, West went on to do the same. Literally.

Later, after seeing backlash for his hesitation (and the show’s decision to cut to commercial), Kanye took to Twitter to explain that he “wasn’t given a chance to answer the question.” However, he still didn’t fully dive into it, going on to thank Kimmel for showing him love and for his hospitality.

Now, 19 days later, West has been given a second opportunity to answer the question (since he didn’t really do so on Twitter). During an appearance on Chicago’s WGCI radio station (Aug. 29), the rapper and fashion entrepreneur actually answered this time around.

“I feel that he cares about the way that black people feel about him and he would like for black people to like him like they did when he was cool and in rap songs,” West said, addressing whether or not he feels Trump cares about people of color. “And he will do the things that are necessary to make that happen. Because he’s got an ego like the rest of us and he wants to be the greatest president, and he knows that he can’t be the greatest president without the acceptance of the black community. So it’s something that he’s gon’ have to work towards, but we gon’ have to speak to him.”

Naturally, fans are taking to Twitter, with many expressing that maybe it would have been better if West didn’t answer at all. West also went on to admit that he did in fact attend a media training session following the backlash from his spirited and arrogant TMZ appearance where he commented that slavery was a “choice,” going on to explain that he instead would have preferred to meet with people “affected” by the statement.

Elsewhere throughout the new interview, Yeezy touches on his relationship with Drake (saying they’ll reconcile one day because they have work to do) and sticks to his choice to stay out of Drizzy’s beef with Pusha T (“Don’t pull me into this conversation).
