Over the weekend, two more women come forward with allegations against R. Kelly. In a report published by BuzzFeed on Friday (May 4), two women spoke out for the first time, with one account discussing being in a mentally and physically abusive relationship with Kelly for four years and the other detailing how her daughter has been “brainwashed” by the singer and is still a part of his alleged “cult.”

The singer has broken his silence in the wake of these recent allegations, claiming that the media is attempting to “destroy [his] legacy.”

In a statement issued Friday, Kelly referred to himself as a “God-fearing man, a son, a brother and most importantly a father,” going on to say that he feels the media “has dissected and manipulated these false allegations.”

Just last week, the leaders of the Time’s Up movement launching its #MuteRKelly campaign in an effort to both advocate for the alleged victims, demand investigations into the abuse accusations and ask for those in the music and entertainment industry to cut ties with the singer.

Elsewhere in his statement, Kelly says that the accusations “perpetuated by the media” are an “attempt to distort my character and to destroy my legacy that I have worked so hard to build.”

R. Kelly’s statements also reminded others that he is currently not under criminal investigation.
