Kendrick Lamar recently made history, becoming the first rapper (and first non-jazz or non-classical artist) to win a Pulitzer Prize in the music category for his 2017 album, DAMN.

Hip-hop fans and music critics have celebrated the Compton’s latest achievement, further asserting how the prestigious recognition serves as an important cultural marker for hip-hop. With rap music now being recognized as high art, it only makes sense that the latest numbers reflect how Lamar’s support from his fans is consistently unwavering.

As reported, DAMN. has experienced a significant bump in sales following receiving the literary recognition, spiking 236% since the award was announced on April 16.

Per Billboard, the album sold 11,000 copies in the week ending April 19, up from 1,000 the week prior. It also moved up to 13th on the Billboard 200 albums chart from the 20th slot.

As such, Lamar’s fourth studio album has now moved 1.1 million copies in the year since its release.

In addition to playing the album on repeat, fans will have the opportunity to see Kendrick Lamar perform it live this summer, as he and the TDE camp will be embarking on the Championship Tour beginning May 4.
