El-P, also known as one-half of Run the Jewels (alongside Killer Mike), has dedicated the past two decades to mastering his production skills and pushing his creativity to the next level.
While Run the Jewels have excelled in innovating their own sound over the years as a duo (and will continue to do so), it’s time for the producer to spread his wings a little and work on a new, separate endeavor.
As confirmed earlier Wednesday (April 18) on Twitter, El-P has shared that he will be handling the scoring duties for an upcoming Al Capone biopic, Fonzo.
“Since I was 14 years old, El-P’s music has been one of the most important creative influences in my life,” the film’s director Josh Tank shared in a statement. “There’s literally no greater honor for me than to collaborate with him today and bear witness to this next stage of his artistic journey.”
El-P returned the sentiment, sharing his gratitude for the opportunity, calling it a chance to “get weird.”
“Cats out of the bag,” he shared on Twitter. “i’m scoring FONZO. psyched to get the chance to do this shit. in celebration, here’s the only picture i can possibly say i arguably look more handsome than tom hardy in. thanks to everyone involved for giving me this opportunity to get weird.”
El-P has previously scored the 2002 graffiti-themed film, Bomb the System, as well as recently shared his work for a Blade Runner 2049 trailer, which unfortunately was “rejected” by the production company.
As reported, Fonzo is currently in production and stars the likes of Tom Hardy, Linda Cardellini, Jack Lowden, Matt Dillon and Kyle MacLachlan.
