Los Angeles emcee Dumbfoundead did his city justice on the latest stop of The Yikes! Tour, bringing out a slew of special guests and close friends who put the mic through a clinic. The Koreatown legend wrecked the stage at the Fonda Theatre with Year of the Ox, G Yamazawa, Ted Park, DJ ZO, and Rekstizzy, showcasing the raw talent bursting from all corners of hip-hop.

Off rip, REVOLT alum DJ ZO set the tone, repping everything from Backstreet Boys to “Back That Azz Up” for the ’99 and the 2018. It’s no wonder why the long-time collaborator of Dumbfoundead tours with, and resident-deejays for, the best (Anderson .Paak, Solange Knowles, Line Hotel, Soho House Malibu, Soho House Weho).

Up-and-coming (looks-like-he’s-from-Atlanta-but-is-actually-from-Wisconsin) Ted Park kicked off the night with a medley of undeniably catchy songs like “Me Love,” “Hello (Who Is This?),” and “Me oh My.” His soothingly turnt set had the crowd vibing and singing throughout. You rarely see a new artist with such a well-packaged sound, gifted with melodic pop sensibilities well beyond his years.

Next up: G Yamazawa. This National Poetry Slam Champion can spit. Incredible breath control on stage while dropping bar after bar after bar of rhyme scheme and wordplay heaven. Please just do yourself a favor and take a hard listen and slap yourself for sleeping on dude (like I did).

@lukashmayyn

You should know the duo Year of the Ox. Lyricks and JL are seasoned lyricists who’ve been killing it independently for years but just recently joined forces in 2016 when they dropped their self-titled EP. Live energy and skills-wise, they’re like the Wu-Tang Clan if the Clan lost 8 members and turned Asian.

@lukashmayyn

Dumbfoundead, no stranger to REVOLT, capped things off with a cornucopia of cuts ranging from the Too $hort-assisted “Cochino” to K-Pop bops like “HYUNG” and bangers like “Rocket Man,” a song that’s currently banned in South Korea for its political subject matter. The veteran had the packed Fonda Theatre in his pocket the whole ride, flowing effortlessly through his extensive discography. Once special acts Year of the Ox and Rekstizzy hopped on stage and into the crowd, you knew you’d just experienced a movie.
