Since the beginning of his career, Joey Bada$$ has always understood the importance of merch. After all, we’ve seen countless images of people sporting the dope designs for Pro Era, like Malia Obama. So back in December he was announced as the first-ever creative director for PONY and, since then, fans have been anticipating a collection.

Yesterday, the rapper unveiled his long-awaited collection but, to our dismay, the collection is only a snapshot of its true potential.

Capsule collections are typically six pieces, and Joey and team felt it necessary to outfit the items to encourage sales of the sneaker. The collection features a red t-shirt, gray crew neck, burgundy suede sneakers, and yellow long-sleeved shirt in a varied array of “Pro Era” colors and design aesthetic. In America, this is the oldest trick in the book. Literally, this technique of outfitting looks is taken from retail merchandising. While the method is extremely successful here, it would not have the same effect elsewhere.

Although the selection is limited, the design aesthetic is so dope that it should be marketed as a limited edition. People love anything exclusive and will pay top dollar for something they just have to have. If marketed properly, this collection has the potential to build pandemonium for the next drop. We’ve witnessed the Bada$$ fanbase turn out for him and Pro Era each time.
