Fans have been ready and waiting for this one.

At the top of the year, photos of Royce da 5’9″ and J. Cole began circulating on social media, with fans instantly wondering what the pair were secretly cooking up in the studio. To kick off the new month, the curious collaboration has now surfaced on Spotify.

The fruits of their labor, a joint track titled “Boblo Boat,” features both MCs flexing their tried-and-true lyrical talents, with Cole even singing some of his contributions. The song features a smooth jazzy instrumental and pays homage to the boat that takes guests to Michigan’s Boblo Island Amusement Park. As such, the track is full of childhood nostalgia, even though both rappers come from different hometowns.

“Nothing compared to our family trips,” Royce raps during the track. “My uncle shook hands with a manly grip / All this hand-me-down shit I had, had an uncanny fit / On the Boblo boat / On our way to that Black amusement park / Wood roller coasters, crack sold on plastic scooter carts / Uh, smoking grass at the vintage food court.”

While J. Cole didn’t grow up in Michigan like Royce did, the North Carolina rapper successfully weaves in his own perspectives and experiences from yesteryear.

“We had no Boblo boat, but I could note those times is like a Bible quote,” Cole spits. “B.C., before cellphones, the first time I would smoke / I was 6 years old but that’s for another chapter / That’s for another story, to God be the glory.”

At this time, it is unclear whether the song will appear on Royce’s new solo album, The Book of Ryanor, or if it will be included as a bonus track on his and DJ Premier’s collaborative PRhyme 2 project. There’s even a chance J. Cole has something up his sleeve. However, it is likely that fans will receive a music video to accompany the track, judging from teased footage Royce and Cole standing in front of old school carnival games.
