With the release of his sixth studio album, FEVER, Black Milk once again proves that his creativity and versatile talent knows no bounds.

The Detroit native’s latest spans 12 tracks, with each showcasing his impressive ability to weave between genres, including soul, rock, hip-hop, funk and electronic, and, of course, take a deep dive lyrically.

Throughout FEVER, which features two guest appearances from Ab and Dwele respectively, the 34-year-old explores a variety of socially conscious themes, ranging from today’s political climate to racism to social media addiction, pairing his honest, reflective lyricism with an air of empowerment, resilience and optimism.

The project, which marks his first since 2014’s If There’s a Hell Below, also enlists the sonic blessing from a slew of musicians, including percussion from Chris “Daddy” Dave (D’Angelo, Adele, Justin Bieber) and Daru Jones (Jack White), bass by long-time collaborator Malik Hunter and keys and guitar from newcomers Ian Fink and Sasha Kashperko.

“I wanted to make a more colorful, feel-good album because I felt like my last two albums were pretty dark,” Black Milk shared with XXL, speaking about the inspiration behind the project. “Of course, between the election and the intense political and social climate, it was hard for me to stay on that feel-good vibe.”
