Kendrick Lamar made a welcome appearance at the 2018 BRIT Awards Wednesday night (Feb. 21), with the DAMN. rapper bringing out Rich the Kid during his time on stage.
The performance began with a rendition of his track, “FEEL.,” during which the Compton native stood on top of a glass box with a luxury vehicle displayed inside it. Following his verse, the words, “This Is Another Satire by Kendrick Lamar” popped up on a screen behind him, nodding to his explosive performance during the 2018 Grammy Awards.
Rumor Report | Kendrick Lamar says ‘DAMN.’ was designed to be played backwards
Lamar, who earlier in the night accepted the award for International Male Solo Artist, then ran through his collaborative track “New Freezer,” while Rich the Kid destroyed the sacrificial Lambo with a baseball bat.
Earlier in the day, Lamar and his TDE teammate SZA were hit with a lawsuit over their recent “All The Stars” video. According to reports, British-Liberian artist Lina Iris Viktor has accused the pair of using her artwork in the visuals for the song, which is included in the Black Panther soundtrack, without permission. Unfortunately, the situation was not resolved prior to her initial complaint, resulting in the lawsuit being filed.
“The Infringing Video and the Movie promotes (and profits from) themes of black and female empowerment and the end of racist and gender exploitation, themes particularly topical in the current environment,” the litigation, which was obtained by Pitchfork, reads in part. “Yet, in a bitter irony, the Defendants have ignored the wishes of the Artist, herself a Black African woman, whose life’s work is founded on an examination of the political and historical preconceptions of ‘blackness,’ liberation and womanhood.”
