At the 2018 Global Spin Awards, airing tonight on REVOLT TV at 9 p.m. ET, veteran super-producer Timbaland will be recognized for his esteemed career with the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by Cadillac.
Upon reflecting on his contributions to (and collaborations with) Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, JAY-Z, Justin Timberlake, Drake, Katy Perry, Nelly Furtado, Ginuwine, OneRepublic and more, Timbo himself weighs in on the celebration.
“DJs [have] always been the platform to letting artists know what’s right and what’s wrong,” says Timbaland. “And I’m honored that they look at my music like that because, what I do, I put my life in it.”
As the GSAs aim to award and honor the most talented turntablists and beatmakers, the Virginia-born virtuoso shows love to both, saying, “As a DJ, you know what you want to hear. And as a producer, you just gotta have the skills to know how to make what you want to hear, and what you think the world should hear. When you produce, you just fall in love with sonics. And I think DJing and producing co-exist.”
Timbaland also reveals his future expectations, what gives him chills, and how he created individual sounds for some “musical souls.”
Grateful as ever, the producer says, “I’m just thankful that I still got it, that I still can please people. To me, that’s more iconic than being an icon.”
