Nipsey Hussle‘s release party celebrating his new album, Victory Lap, unfortunately, did no go according to plan.

As reported, the Los Angeles event, which was organized in tandem with 2018 NBA All-Star festivities and was set to take place Saturday night (Feb. 17), ended up erupting in gunfire, with one person being shot in the thigh.

Per TMZ, the shots were fired outside of World on Wheels, a roller skating rink in Venice, around 11:30 PM. Police were unable to locate the shooter, with reports claiming that the victim chose not to cooperate with the LAPD’s investigation.

According to a source close to Nipsey, the California rapper was not present at the venue at the time of the shooting. Alternatively, he was reportedly performing at the Shrine Auditorium during YG‘s concert and was about to work his way to his own event afterward. As exemplified in the video footage below courtesy of TMZ, there was a heavy police presence on the scene, with the event promptly being shut down.

One anonymous witness spoke with HipHopDX about the incident, sharing, “I was walking to the ATM [at the Bank of America near the venue] and I heard bullets start flying by. I heard casings hitting the ground. I saw people falling down. It was like mass hysteria. I couldn’t see who got shot. We just started running and didn’t look back. I just kind of heard it happening. I couldn’t really tell how many people got shot because so many people were falling. Everyone scattered and were climbing over each other to get away.”

At the time of this report, LAPD’s investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.

Earlier in the weekend, Nipsey’s Victory Lap promotional truck was towed from his Los Angeles clothing store because it had allegedly been parked illegally in a handicap spot. As reported, the cops found that the tags were expired and impounded the vehicle, to which Nipsey insisted that the cops just had it out for him.

Hopefully, Nipsey Hussle is remaining in good spirits despite this weekend’s hiccups. Stream the rapper’s long-awaited major label debut, Victory Lap, here.
