As the co-founder of Cash Money Records, Bryan “Birdman” Williams has plenty of stories to tell. Most recently, the music mogul teamed up with Apple Music to document his side of the story, this weekend releasing Before Anythang: The Cash Money Story.
Per the Apple Music page, “Before Anythang is an inspiring portrait of Bryan ‘Baby/Birdman’ Williams, whose Cash Money Records empire would shake up rap music and reverberate far beyond the Crescent City. His origin story is filled with tragedy and belief, hustle and community, told by the people closest to him and narrated by Baby himself.”
In addition to promoting the new film online, Birdman also shared a trailer for the film’s soundtrack, boasting guest features such as Migos, NBA YoungBoy, Young Thug, Gucci Mane, Kodak Black, Jacquees & DeJ Loaf, Ralo, and more. The release date for the forthcoming soundtrack has not yet been shared.
Birdman narrates the new doc, taking fans back to the early days and sharing plenty of personal anecdotes from family and close friends, as juxtaposed by the stories and throwback footage surrounding the rise and ongoing regime of Cash Money Records.
“Being young, we just did what we felt we wanted to do,” he can be heard saying in the film. “Couldn’t give, so we took. Uptown, everybody knows each other, everybody knows what everybody’s about. I love my neighborhood. I’ll never leave it. But I’ma bring you back. Show you the life, before we had anything.”
