The opening of Marvel’s Black Panther deserves its own national holiday. Regardless, moviegoers across the country have been treated it as such, helping further propel the film’s colossal earnings.
As previously reported, the film was recently projected to make over $160 million at the box office. However, an updated report is claiming that number is actually much, much higher, with the film heading for a historic $218 million debut over the four-day Presidents Day weekend.

As reported by Variety, that number, which is estimated based on sales from 4,020 theaters across the country, has now doubled its original projection.
Additionally, the Ryan Cooler-directed film absolutely destroyed the record for the largest opening Presidents Day weekend, speeding past the $152 million 2016’s Deadpool earned.
