DMX is heading back to jail.
The rapper was handcuffed and taken into custody today (January 30) in Manhattan Federal Court after a brief hearing with Judge Jed Rakoff.
X was supposed to have been completing rehab while out on bail for his tax evasion case. But he left the court-ordered drug program and failed a drug test upon testing positive for cocaine, opiates, and oxycodone. The judge ruled DMX a flight risk.
Judge Rakoff said he had tried to accommodate DMX’s tour schedule, but recalled the rapper’s bail terms and noted X’s failure to comply with them.
Rakoff explained, “[DMX] in effect said, ‘Judge, trust me.’ I will have a drug counselor. That was a great big lie … He said, in effect, ‘screw you.’”
According to TMZ, DMX’s attorney, Murray Richman, said, “I’m saddened and disappointed. We’ll have to deal with it accordingly.”
According to NY Daily News, X will likely remain in custody until his sentencing on March 28.
