Dave Chappelle is walking away from the 60th annual Grammy Awards with his first-ever Gramophone, taking home the accolade for his 2017 comedy special, The Age of Spin & Deep in the Heart of Texas.

In addition to accepting the award, the veteran comedian stole the spotlight each and every time he was in it Sunday evening (Jan. 28), with many taking to Twitter to advocate for him to host next year’s awards as a result.

To kick off the evening’s festivities, Kendrick Lamar opened with an exhilarating medley of songs from DAMN., which took home the Grammy for Best Rap Album, among others, with Chappelle taking a moment to address those watching across the nation.

“I just wanted to remind the audience that the only thing more frightening than watching a black man be honest in America is being an honest black man in America,” the comedian said, during an impromptu interlude.

After Lamar ran through his track, “DNA.,” Chappelle interjected once more, adding, “Is this OK with CBS? Cause it looks like he’s singing and dancing but this brother’s taking enormous chances. Rumble, young man, rumble!”

While his powerful commentary about racism began to trend on Twitter, he was far from finished. Later on in the evening, while introducing the winner for Best Rap Album, he threw shade to the Grammys for omitting A Tribe Called Quest from this year’s nomination, a sentiment that both Consequence and Q-Tip have both spoken passionately about in the past.

“It is an honor for me to present the Best Rap Album award this year because the genre of music means so much to me,” Chappelle began. “I have so much love and respect for all the nominees tonight. And I just want to take a moment, to acknowledge — of course — Jarobi, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Q-Tip, sometimes Busta, sometimes Consequence, and forever and ever, Phife Dawg, may he rest in peace. Hip-hop, make some noise for A Tribe Called Quest! Can we kick it?!”

In addition to garnering much applause from the audience while presenting, he also kept things extremely humble in his own acceptance speech, concluding his brief address with the reminder he, too, has to go back to work tomorrow.

“See you Monday,” he said prior to exiting the stage.
