Considering both Kesha’s personal experience as an alleged victim of sexual abuse, assault and harrassment from super-producer Dr. Luke, and the far-ranging #MeToo and #TimesUp movements that aim to put an end to all abuses of power, her performance of “Praying” was destined to be emotionally powerful, and it did not disappoint (despite it losing Best Pop Solo Performance earlier in the night to Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You.”) Joined by fellow singers Cyndi Lauper, Andra Day, Camila Cabello, Julia Michaels and Bebe Rexha, as well as a choir, Kesha broke down in tears at the end, as did much of the audience.
