Fat Joe talks ‘She’s Gotta Have It,’ Tidal podcast, butt implants and Remy Ma’s next album

With a recurring role on Spike Lee’s She’s Gotta Have It, a newly-launched podcast and an album on the way, it’s easy to forget that Fat Joe has been in the game for 25 years. “Shoutout to Spike Lee for saving my life,” the “Pick It Up” rapper said to The Breakfast Club. “He saved my life, because the rappers get shot and go broke. So I’m trying to be some an actor or something.” Accompanied by platinum producer Dre, Joey Crack spoke on his many major moves, including an upcoming movie he’ll be featured in. “You know I just finished the Kevin Hart movie. It’s with Tiffany Haddish,” he unveiled. He also fielded questions regarding his Tidal podcast, his feelings towards butt implants and injections, and his Terror Squad partner Remy Ma’s next album.
On the preparation for his role in She’s Gotta Have It: “I locked myself up in a little hotel in Manhattan. Nothing fancy. I just kept practicing my parts. I turned my phone off. I had nobody with me. I took it very, very serious. She’s Gotta Have It– rumor has it, it has a second season. Rumor has it that Winnie Win from Bed Stuy is coming back next year.
On the “Pick It Up” video: “Dre said we were going to make a strip club anthem and we made a strip club anthem. We went out there to Vegas. We got with Floyd Mayweather’s crew. It was an amazing video if you ask me.”**
On his Tidal podcast: “Everybody told me to do a podcast. Roc Nation’s Dez said, ‘with your personality, you need to do one.’ I thought it takes a lot of time, but I actually had a great time. I interviewed Swizz. People talk to me about stuff that they would never talk about. I interviewed The Lox, Casanova – I love his record. It’s my favorite record on the streets right now.”
On butt implants and injections: “Me personally, I ain’t got a problem with it. If a person wants to do what they want to do with their bodies, then that’s them. You know why I’m sayin’? It’s helped quite a few young ladies out. Them were slim, beautiful and they want that booty. Whatever they want, it ain’t got nothing to do with me.”
On executive producing Remy Ma’s upcoming album: “I get the hits, man. You heard the “Melanin Magic” (Pretty Brown). That thing going number 1. Ain’t nothing you can do about it. Y’all gotta understand that when I make music I make it as if I am a program director at a radio station. That’s how I make my music, so when I go into executive producing Remy – wait till you see that video. … She goes in the booth and kill them. She has some of the most amazing verses I’ve heard, male or female.”
