In honor of her late brother Miyagi, who passed away from cancer in 2012, Jhené Aiko has launched a foundation that aims to bring both hope and financial support to diagnosed patients and their families, according to Billboard.
Announced on Christmas, the WAYS Foundation is derived from the acronym “Why aren’t you smiling,” a tweet Miyagi sent during his treatment in hopes of bringing humor.
Aiko said about the outreach, “This Christmas, I decided to gift my family with the ‘WAYS Foundation,’ something my family and I have had in the works since the passing of my brother. I decided to make a donation on my family’s behalf in which we plan to continue to help people and families affected by cancer.”
To kick it off, Aiko donated, as a surprise, $15,000 to cover the medical bills of five-year-old Lily Olive Cosby from Eagle Rock, Calif. who is currently battling leukemia.
