As fans can proudly attest, 2017 has become a landmark year for hip-hop and R&B, with the genres officially assuming their rightful position as the most dominant genres in the U.S., achieving such prestige and popularity for the official first time in history.
In case there is still any skepticism when it comes to the genres’ transitional takeover, Google has some additional evidence, sharing its year-end reports ranking its most popular searches throughout 2017.
Per the official Google report, the top 5 for the category of “Most Googled Musicians” is comprised of Linkin Park, Cardi B, Lil Pump, Joyner Lucas and Jason Aldean, in that order. The top 10 also features a handful of rappers, including Danielle Bregoli (No. 6), Post Malone (No. 7) and Remy Ma (No. 9).
Additionally, over on the most-searched lyrics list for 2017, several rap songs made the cut, with Kendrick Lamar’s “HUMBLE.,” Migos’ “Bad and Boujee,” and Cardi B’s “Bodak Yellow” each ranking in the top 5.
With more hip-hop artists on the board than any other genre throughout these two lists, in particular, the data further supports how hip-hop truly reigned supreme in 2017.
