Meek Mill's lawyers file additional appeal to remove judge from case

“[Her]…federal investigation…raises further doubt as to her ability to preside impartially.”

  /  12.05.2017

Last month, the FBI reportedly launched an investigation into the judge overseeing Meek Mill’s probation case—seeking “possible extortionate demand”—after his lawyer made claims that she acted inappropriately with his case. Since then, a lot has happened. Meek’s lawyers, his former manager, and a crew of supporters have demanded that Judge Genece Brinkley recuse herself his case. Meek’s bail hearing date was canceled after an “administrative error,” the Pennsylvania Superior Court rejected his emergency bail request, and Brinkley was ordered to stop delaying the case’s appeal motion. This week, she denied Meek’s bail request, calling the rapper a “flight risk” and a “danger to the community.”

Now, according to The FADER, Meek’s lawyers have filed an additional appeal for the recusal of Judge Brinkley from the appeal case, citing an FBI investigation that dates back to 2016.

Documents read, “The existence of a federal investigation involving Judge Brinkley’s conduct regarding Mr. Williams, combined with Judge Brinkley’s awareness of that investigation, raises further doubt as to her ability to preside impartially, and thus is an additional factor supporting recusal.”
