'The Breakfast Club': Ashanti talks respect, sex appeal, her new film, and that Ciroc commercial

After years of being blocked on Twitter by Ashanti, Charlamagne tha God has finally been allowed back into her good graces (and her feed). The momentous occasion happened during her most recent visit to The Breakfast Club, where she also discussed her upcoming film Stuck, embracing her beauty, and how her Ciroc campaign came about.
On her upcoming movie Stuck: Stuck has been stuck in production for a couple of years, but it should be coming in 2018. I’m super excited about it. I executive-produced the film. It’s basically about several different people from several different cultures and walks of life being stuck on a subway in New York City in the summertime. You can imagine all of the stereotypical name-calling and all of the stuff that happens on that train. It’s crazy, because when we were shooting the movie I felt like the message needed to be heard then, because it was super relevant. Now it’s just like, yo, people really need to see and hear this, because I feel like we’ve come a long way, but we got so far to go.
On her Ciroc campaign: Puff came to me at a party in Vegas and said, ‘Yo, I want you to be in the new Ciroc commercial.’ I thought he was playing. He was like, ‘I want you to be a part of this.’ We end up shooting and he’s like, ‘I want this to be like your Bo Derek moment.’
On balancing being sexy and being respected: I think it has to do with a mindset and being a boss and an empowered woman. The fact that I’m coming out of the pool with the bikini on and all of that, as a female, it’s my choice. I’ve been in the gym, I’ve been working, I’ve been drinking my green juices, and I want to be in a bikini and I want to make my decision to do that. I think it’s important to encourage women to embrace their power in a respectful way and to make that decision.
