You’ve recently seen Fat Joe post photos on Instagram of himself and Kevin Hart on the set of their new film Night School. But Joey Crack has another big acting gig that the world will be able to watch in a few weeks. He’s part of the ensemble cast of Spike Lee’s television adaptation of his groundbreaking debut, She’s Gotta Have It.

“I’m telling you. I’m telling you,” Spike Lee beamed recently in New Orleans of the excellent job Joe did. “When people watch She’s Gotta Have It, on Netflix Thanksgiving day, you’re gonna see Fat Joe like you’ve never seen him before. Fat Joe kiltedtedted [sic] It! Amazing. Ask him.”

As fate would have it, Joe and Lee crossed paths several months back while traveling coast to coast.

“I’m telling you. When you go to New York to LA, the best way to go is Jet Blue Mint,” Spike said. “It leaves 5:50 AM to LAX, you get in at 8:30 AM. Jet Blue put me and Fat Joe next to each other on the plane. So we’re saying ‘what’s up? What’s up?’”

Instead of falling asleep in the early morning, the two chopped it up for the duration of the trip.

“We talked the entire time from JFK to LAX,” Lee described. “We talked the entire flight. He was telling me his entire life story.”

Joe was so engaging, Spike encouraged him to audition for the series. And like The Bronx Legend has done for 25 years with his fans, he charmed the executives of the “She’s Gotta Have It” and as the world-renowned lensman told us, “he killlllllltededed [sic] it and he got the part.

“He’s character name is ‘Winnie Win’ because he wins around the world,” Spike continued. “He’s the owner of this burlesque club called the ‘Hot Trot.’ Fat Joe is amazing. Thanksgiving. It’s going down.”

Meanwhile, the Tiffany Haddish-starring Night School comes out in 2018 and is ironically directed by Spike’s cousin, Malcolm D. Lee.
