Remy Ma’s much-anticipated new single “Wake Me Up” is here, and it’s as much a banger as it is a fitting tribute.

Featuring Lil Kim, the record flips a classic standout from the Queen Bee’s 1996 debut Hard Core, which coincidentally turns 11 years old this week. With Kim on the hook, Remy fires off a barrage of hollow-tipped lines over the menacing Cool & Dre production. “You fake-ass b-tch, you owe homage, pay that sh-t / Spray that fif’, that crown, ‘Imma take that shit / ‘Cause you a clown and Homey don’t play that shit!“

While premiering the song on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, Remy said it was an honor to work with the Queen Bee. “I wanted to pay homage to Kim, I feel like she’s the Madonna of the hip-hop world to me,” she shared. “If I heard a Remy Ma-Lil Kim record, I would want Remy to be the Remy Ma that Big Pun met and I want Lil Kim to be the Lil Kim that B.I.G. met.” The new single is Remy’s first release since inking a deal with Columbia Records and is expected to appear on her new album, 7 Winters & 6 Summers. The project is set for an early 2018 release and will mark her first full-length since her 2014 release from prison.

According to the label, the album “fearlessly tackles multiple subjects including love, marriage, self-care, motherhood, identity and freedom, told from Remy’s point of view.”
