DeRay Davis has been making audiences laugh out loud for years. And for the first time, the comedian and actor will bring the funny to the Netflix stage. Set to premiere on November 14th, DeRay Davis: How to Act Black will be his first stand up comedy show for the streaming service. Davis stopped by The Breakfast Club to discuss the upcoming special, his involvement – or lack thereof – in the television series Snowfall, and the potential for another Friday film.

Filmed in Atlanta, DeRay’s long overdue Netflix special could potentially be one of his most structured stand-up routines to date. In the past, his specials have been a little less rehearsed. “I’ve never written a special,” said Davis. “Every time I do my specials I just really freestyle. I just be drunk and go on stage.” He revealed to Angela Yee, Charlamagne tha God and DJ Envy that _How to Act Black_could also soon be turned into a television series.

The host of VH1’s Hip Hop Squares’ had almost landed a role in John Singleton’s Snowfall. The FX series, which has been greenlit for a second season, at one point was slated to feature appearances by DeRay and also Laura London. However, changes were made to the cast. “I auditioned, I got the role and I was on the project,” said DeRay. “Then they reshot it and I wasn’t on the project anymore. It was myself and Laura London.”

For years, rumors have swirled around whether or not Last Friday, the fourth installment of Ice Cube’s Friday series will ever come to fruition. Though DeRay’s name has been attached to some of the recent talks surrounding the cult classic movie franchise, he told The Breakfast Club that he has yet to sign on to the movie. “I have not had a phone call from nobody,” he said.
