Over the years, Dave Chappelle has garnered a bit of a reputation for showing up unannounced and surprising locals at random venues, when he happens to be in town for a show across the U.S.
Most recently, the beloved comedian stopped by the Free Man Cajun Cafe in Dallas yesterday (Oct. 27), turning the surprise late-night appearance into an impromptu open mic, hip-hop style.
As reported, Chappelle crashed the open mic and asked host Lundon Taylor if could take the stage, with the comedian participating in the festivities for over an hour, up until the bar closed at 2 AM.
“I said, ‘Who’s that man in the hat?’ He looked real familiar,” Taylor reflected on the random occasion, speaking with the Dallas Observer. “Finally I was like, ‘Oh s—t, that is Dave Chappelle.’ He got up in no time. He looked at me and said, ‘You the emcee, the host?’ I said, ‘Yes, sir.’ He said, ‘Don’t go nowhere.’ He spoke a little and went into a hip-hop song called ‘You Know What Love Is,’ and then I started singing verses in front of Dave Chappelle.”
Sounds like an unforgettable night! Luckily, for those of us who weren’t fortunate enough to catch Chappelle in action, some video footage has surfaced from the event. Check it out below.
