Earlier this week, rumors began to circulate about the existence of a possible Cardi B and Beyoncé collaboration after the Bronx rapper’s engineer Michael Ashby took to his Instagram Stories to share a shot of what appeared to be him working on a track temporarily titled: “Cardi B ft Beyonce Demo Wet.”
He wrote on the clip, “Wow this feature is big.” Unsurprisingly, it sent fans into a tizzy.
He later posted an apology to Beyoncé and her fans, writing, “I cannot turn back the hands of time so at least this a life lesson I’ve learned on my behalf and all I can do is move forward.”
But Cardi is still playing coy. Billboard caught up with the rapper yesterday (October 26) at Power 105.1’s Powerhouse concert in Brooklyn, N.Y. and Cardi insisted: “I don’t know that man. I don’t know him! I don’t even know why people are making those speculations. I don’t know that man.”
What she would confirm, however, is a possible collaboration with Kehlani.
In a recent interview with Beats 1, host Zane Lowe suggested to the singer that the two could be the “new Throne,” to which Kehlani responded: “Cardi B, if you’re listening, I’m here for it. I’m down. Let’s do it.”
When Billboard looked to confirm, Cardi still kept it vague, but said: “Oh, there’s something…we’ve been working on that. Yes, it’s so beautiful. Well, I haven’t finished it, but I heard something and I was like, ‘Oh, Kehlani! I love her.’ She’s such a sweetie. Definitely.”
