Reports: Colin Kaepernick signs book deal for $1 million

Colin Kaepernick will likely go down in the history books after his protest against police brutality during the national anthem, and it appears that he’ll be writing a book of his own as well.

New York Post reports that the former San Francisco 49er quarterback has signed a book deal worth more than $1 million with Random House imprint One World.

Kaepernick became the biggest story in sports last season, when he opted to sit – and later, kneel – for the national anthem while it was being played before NFL games, stating that he was doing so to raise awareness against police brutality. The protest encouraged other NFL players and professional athletes to do the same, while many critics accused Kaepernick and other protesters of disrespecting the military.

Since leaving the 49ers in the offseason, Kaepernick has not been signed to a new team, despite football experts insisting that he’s talented enough to play in the NFL as a starter or a backup. He filed a collusion grievance against NFL owners last week, with his lawyer’s filed complaint stating that owners “have colluded to deprive Mr. Kaepernick of employment rights in retaliation for Mr. Kaepernick’s leadership and advocacy for equality and social justice and his bringing awareness to peculiar institutions still undermining racial equality in the United States.”

Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has led a charge to disgrace NFL players who kneel for the anthem, calling them “sons of bitches” and insisting that they should be fired from their teams. Many NFL players knelt in response to Trump, though it seemed that Kaepernick’s original purpose of protesting police brutality was lost.

Kaepernick has been largely silent during the fracas, rarely commenting on his status in the NFL and mostly focusing on his humanitarian efforts. People want to hear what he has to say, and it appears that this book will do just that.
