Maino talks new mixtape, inspiration from Kalief Browder on ‘The Breakfast Club’

  /  10.20.2017

Brooklyn was in the house Friday morning (Oct. 20), as Maino came through The Breakfast Club. The surprise guest, who was accompanied by his artist Dios Moreno, has a new mixtape out called Party & Pain. While chatting with DJ Envy, Angela Yee and Charlamagne tha God, Maino discussed his new album, settling down and being inspired by Time: The Kalief Browder Story.

Featuring contributions from Fat Joe, London On Da Track, and Drumma Boy, Maino’s new album dropped earlier this week. On the song from the album, “The Ghost Of Kalief Browder,” Maino tackles a pretty heavy subject. The track was crafted after the rapper watched the riveting documentary, Time: The Kalief Browder Story. “It inspired me, so I made a record based upon it, because where he was at was where I had been many years earlier,” he said, as he recollected some of his past experiences.

After referencing his former savage lifestyle, Maino confessed that he has slowed things down a bit. “I’ve been settled,” he said.
